What is HTA?

Health Technology Assessment (HTA) is a multidisciplinary process that summarises information on the medical, economic, social, legal and ethical issues related to the use of a medical technology in a systematic, transparent, unbiased and methodologically robust manner.

The aim is to provide the information needed for safe and effective health interventions that focus on patient well-being and are cost-effective. Despite these political objectives, HTA must be committed to research and scientific methodology.

A medical technology is the application of scientific knowledge in health care and prevention. Examples of medical technologies are diagnostic and treatment methods, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, rehabilitation and prevention, and organizational support systems in which health care is provided.
